The Emperor's New Hydrogen
Economy Updates: Chapter 6 – Hydrogen from
Sustainable Sources
Last updated 2024.03.01
2024.03.01
Of late, there has been a lot of hype about 'natural' or 'geologic' or 'white' or 'gold' hydrogen.
This is the stuff folks are finding by accident, when looking for something else (e.g.,
fossil methane, water, chromium), and usually with unpleasant results in the first encounter.
I don't cover that hydrogen source in the updates to this chapter, as it is not a sustainable
source. Rather, like the fossil methane or chromium, it is a finite resource. Further, each
reported case of such finds to date indicate there are continuous fugitive emissions from these
points of discovery, and elemental hydrogen entering the atmosphere is effectively a greenhouse gas,
which is the opposite of sustainable in a warming world.
