The Canadian Museum of Science & Technology has agreed to host a warm-up event for Electrathon vehicles on Saturday, June 1 on their premises at 1867 St. Laurent Blvd from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. More details here as they become available. Rain date, Sunday June 2.
Also on June 2, the [dead link: http://www.saublespeedway.com/Sauble_Speedwa/Electric_Car_x.html] Bluewater E-Car Race at Sauble Speedway near Owen Sound, Ontario. If you are planning to participate in the Sauble Speedway event, we certainly encourage you to still do so. However, if you are not, and you can make it to the Museum, this promises to be a fun get-together as well.
The 2002 EVCO Electrathon will be held at the
Ottodrome International Speedway.
As previously announced, the event will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2002 - rain or shine.
I have been contacted by a representative of the new owner of the Capital City Speedway, who tell me the facility will remain open. The Speedway has been home to our event for the past 4 years, and we have been very pleased with the facility. We extend our best wishes and continued gratitude to former owner Penny Bell for allowing us to use the Speedway for the past 4 years, and wish her well in her future endeavours.
However, confusion resulting from media reports and a lack of contact with anyone at the speedway for months prior to Friday (Feb. 15) left us looking for another location to hold the 2002 EVCO Electrathon. During this period, we elected to change the date to June 8, 2002 from June 1 as previously advertised. The date change is to avoid a conflict with the [dead link: http://www.saublespeedway.com/Sauble_Speedwa/Electric_Car_x.html">Bluewater E-Car Event at Sauble Speedway on Sunday June 2, 2002. It would appear there will be only two such events in Canada this year east of Vancouver, so it would be a shame to prevent teams from competing in both due to a simple date conflict.
The event location for the 2002 EVCO Electrathon has not yet been finalized. With word that the Speedway will continue to operate, now we are negotiating with 3 sites, and expect to make a decision very soon. Both locations, other than the Speedway (Stittsville/Ashton) are within Ottawa city limits.
We have received the following notification from Mitel.
Mitel Networks regrets that due to the current economic situation and the resultant constraints on our resources, we are unable to sponsor the excellence-in-planning awards for the 2002 EVCO Electrathon. It is hoped that we may be able to resume sponsorship of the awards in future years, and wish this year's competitors success in their endeavors.
The E-Car Event, similar to the 2002 EVCO Electrathon, is scheduled for the following day (Sunday June 2, 2002) at the Sauble Speedway in western Ontario. For more information, please contact Dave LaFlamme.
